10 Skincare Tips from the NIASHA Team

Celebrating 10 Years of K-Beauty Rituals, Real Skin & Real Results

This year, NIASHA turns 10 🎉

A decade of discovering, testing, and falling in love with Korean skincare has taught us one important lesson: great skin isn’t about doing more -  it’s about doing things right.
To celebrate our birthday, the NIASHA team is sharing 10 skincare tips we truly stand by -  the little rituals, smart shortcuts, and K-Beauty hacks that actually make a difference.

1. Try the Sheet Mask Layering Method for Event-Ready Glow

When your skin needs to look its absolute best, one sheet mask is not always enough. Layer 2–3 favourite sheet masks back-to-back (no rinsing in between) to deeply hydrate, plump, and boost radiance before a big event. For a perfect progression, start with a water-type mask for hydration, follow with an essence-type for nourishment, and finish with a cream-type mask to seal it all in. Complete your routine with a light cream to lock in the effects.

Best for: dull, tired, dehydrated skin

2. Don’t Underestimate Your Cleansers

One of the most underrated steps in skincare? Cleansing. Both your makeup remover and your water-based cleanser set the stage for everything that follows. Even the most expensive serum can't perform well if your cleansing step is stripping or irritating your skin. A gentle, well-formulated cleansing routine protects your skin barrier and allows active ingredients to perform at their best. Once you find a double-cleansing duo that leaves your skin balanced and comfortable, it's wise to make it a consistent staple unless/until your skin's needs change (seasonal, hormonal, etc.).

Rule of thumb: Clean skin should feel comfortable, never tight and return to its baseline state within 60 mins after cleansing (solo testing, without applying other products).

3. Build a “Capsule Routine” That Always Works

Instead of constantly switching products, create a capsule skincare routine - a small set of trusted essentials your skin consistently responds well to. Use this “base routine” in the morning, when your skin benefits most from stability and protection, and experiment with targeted variations in the evening for concerns like breakouts, sensitivity, pigmentation or aging.

Why it works: Less confusion, fewer reactions, and better long-term results -  with room to adjust when your skin needs more.

4. Focus on One Skin Concern at a Time

Trying to fix everything at once often leads to irritation and inconsistent results. Instead, choose one primary goal—whether it's calming sensitivity, fading pigmentation, clearing acne, or addressing aging—and build your routine around it for at least 4–6 weeks.

Here’s a sustainable way to structure it: dedicate your morning routine to hydration and protection (the foundation of healthy skin for everyone), and use your evening routine to actively treat your chosen concern. This way, your skin gets the targeted help it needs without being overwhelmed.

Remember: in skincare, consistency always beats complexity.

5. Test Your Moisturizer on Its Own (Solo Testing)

Your moisturizer sets the tone for how your skin feels day to day - but its true effect is often masked by serums and actives. When trying a new cream, apply it on its own for a few days after cleansing and toning. Without other products interfering, you’ll quickly understand how your skin really responds -  whether it feels balanced, hydrated, congested, or irritated.

This is the easiest way to know if a moisturizer truly works for your skin.

6. Use a Sleeping Mask on the Plane -  Not a Sheet Mask

Despite the hype, sheet masks on planes aren’t ideal. Cabin air dries them out quickly and can even pull moisture from your skin. A sleeping mask or rich gel mask creates a protective seal, keeping skin hydrated throughout the flight. Your skin will thank you after landing.

7. Always Wash Your Face After Shampoo & Conditioner

Shampoo and conditioner residue can clog pores and cause breakouts - especially around the hairline and jaw. Cleansing your face after washing your hair ensures no leftover ingredients remain on the skin. Small habit, big difference.

8. Apply a Lip Sleeping Mask While You Do Your Makeup

Applying a lip sleeping mask while doing your makeup is a simple trick with big results.
It deeply conditions your lips in the background while also creating a barrier that prevents foundation or concealer from drying them out. By the time you’re ready for lipstick or a lip tint, your lips are smooth, soft, and perfectly prepped.

9. Store Eye Patches and Aloe Gel in the Fridge

Cooling isn’t just for vitamin C - eye patches and aloe gel work even better when chilled. Keeping them in the fridge enhances their soothing, de-puffing, and calming effects, instantly refreshing tired eyes and overheated skin on hot days.

10. Give Actives a “Rest Day”

Using exfoliating acids, retinol, or vitamin C every day isn’t always better.
Scheduling active-free days allows your skin to repair itself and reduces the risk of sensitivity or over-exfoliation. Healthy skin needs recovery time too.

Bonus Reminder: Your Neck & Décolleté Are Part of Your Face.

Skincare shouldn’t stop at your jawline. Applying your cleanser, treatments, and moisturizer down to the neck and chest keeps skin texture and aging signs consistent. Future you will be very grateful.
